Synopsis and Plot.

Egbert was just your run of the mill disgrunted call centre worker until, when walking home one afternoon, a piano fell on his head and he woke up dead.

Egbert finds himself plunged into the seedy and corrupt underworld where people from different parts of History end up and wait for their time to be called. Matters only get more complicated when Eleanor, a young Victorian girl and member of the highly violent police force "The Angels" falls in love with him.

And then Egbert is called to the ruler of the Underworld himself, Mr. Druitt, to perform some tasks that put the people he cares about in immortal danger.

But how far will Egbert go for his salvation?

Reviews.

"I've been watching student productions for ten years and this has the highest production values I think I've seen. The puppets, the films, the music - this is total theatre!"

Laurie Sansom, Artistic Director of the Royal and Derngate.

History and Background.

Egbert in the Underworld is, reportedley, one of the largest and most ambitious productions ever staged in the Donald Roy Theatre and the first original student written production since Anthony Minghella read Drama at the University as an undergraduate.

A large cast of near thirty actors contibuted through acting, song, silent films and puppets to bring to life this huge fantasy story.

The main aim of the production was to go big: big with ideas and big with story. Taking the audience through every twist and turn before throwing them out the other end. Playing to record full houses, the audience gasped each night as this epic story unfolded before their very eyes.

Media.

For those of you who missed the production, you can enjoy two some of the silent films that were made especially for the production - one of which starring very famous older actor David Bradley!
